NEVILLE F HACKER AM

Controversial Issues in Gynaecological Oncology

Neville Hacker is a Conjoint Professor of Gynaecological Oncology at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. He graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland in 1967 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Brisbane. In 1978, he went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to do Fellowship in Gynaecological Oncology and continued on as faculty there and was appointed Director of Gynaecological Oncology at UCLA in 1985.  In November 1986, he returned to Australia to establish the Gynaecological Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. Professor Hacker is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American College of Surgeons. He is a Past President of the International Gynecologic Cancer Society and a Past President of the Society of Pelvic Surgeons. He has written over 200 peer-reviewed articles, 44 book chapters, and two books – Hacker and Moore’s Essentials of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Berek and Hacker’s Gynecologic Oncology, both in their 6th Edition. He has won numerous awards including the Wertheim Award from the Austrian Society of Gynecologic Oncologists in 2007 and the IGCS Award for Excellence in 2008.

Innovations to Reduce Postpartum Bleeding and Postpartum Haemorrhage-Related Deaths

Sir Sabaratnam is Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. George’s University of London from January 2013 after he retired from his position as Professor and Head of O&G in the same institution from 2001 to 2013. He is also Foundation Professor of O&G at St. George’s Medical School, University of Nicosia from 2014 and Visiting Professor at the Institute of Global Health Policy Innovation, Imperial College, London from 2012. He was Past President of the FIGO (International Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) (2012 – 2015); of the British Medical Association (BMA) June 2013 – June 2014; and of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) of the UK (2007-2010). He was recipient of Honorary Doctorate from the University of Athens (2009); Colombo (2014); London (2013); and Lund, Sweden (2014) and Honorary Fellowships from the American, Pakistan, Sri Lankan, South African, Indian, Australia and New Zealand Colleges of O&G and is an Honorary Member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, USA (2014). He was appointed Knight Bachelor by her Majesty the Queen of the UK in her Birthday Honours List in June 2009 in recognition of his services to Medicine and Health Care.

Paradigm Shift of Treatment of Endometriosis

Professor Tasuku Harada was a Resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tottori Prefectural Central Hospital (1983) and a Medical Staff in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tottori University (1984-1985). He was Research Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Leeds University, UK (1985). From 1986 to 1992, he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Tottori University. From 1992 to 1993 he was Research Fellow in Internal Medicine in Osaka University. He was a Lecturer at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tottori University from 1994 to 2007; became Associate Professor from 2007 to 2008 and became Professor and Chairman of the Department in 2008. Professor Harada was Special Support to the Hospital Director and Head of Center of Minimally Invasive Surgery (2011 – 2012) and became Vice Director (2012) of Tottori University Hospital. In 2017, he became Director of Tottori University Hospital and Vice President of Tottori University. Professor Harada is the Vice President of the Japan Society of Gynecologic and Obstetric Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He is Director of Japan Society of Reproductive Medicine, Japan Society of Endometriosis and Japan Society of Fertilization and Implantation. He is a Delegate of Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Professor Harada is a Board Member of Asian Society of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis, World Endometriosis Society and Society of Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders.
